My name is Nate Hendley and I am a Toronto-based freelance journalist and author available for writing, editing and proofreading assignments. I also do presentations and readings.
I was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1966 but was raised in Canada.
I grew up in Waterloo, Ontario and am a dual citizen of Canada and the United States.
From 1985 – 1989, I attended Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. I graduated with an Honours BA in Cultural Studies.
I returned to school in 1990 to study journalism at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario. Shortly thereafter, I began freelancing.
Since the early 1990s, I have written hundreds of articles for a wide variety of media outlets including The National Post, The Globe and Mail, Business in Focus, NOW Magazine. eye weekly and Maclean’s. I have also researched and written articles for the Government of Ontario’s InvestinOntario.com website (including features on L-3 Wescam, commercial drones, Lockheed Martin’s IMPACT Centre and Indal Technologies).
Over the past decade, I have been a regular contributor to Canadian Metalworking, a trade magazine focused on manufacturing. In this capacity, I have written sector reports about Canada’s aerospace, automotive, transportation, energy and medical devices industries. Additional articles I have done for Metalworking include business profiles and features about workforce productivity and industrial robots.
Other trade magazines I’ve written for include Franchise Canada, Canadian Printer, Canadian Grocer, IT For Industry, etc.
I have proofread editorial and advertising copy on a freelance basis for Canadian Grocer magazine and marketing firms Juniper Park, Lowe Roche Advertising and Match Drive.
I am a published author who has written over a dozen books, primarily in the true-crime genre. I have written books about the American Mafia and the wrongful conviction of Ontario teenager Steven Truscott. My latest book, about infamous cons and hoaxes was published in the fall of 2016.
I recently expanded into book editing. I have registered as an editor on Reedsy, a website that links fledgling authors with experienced editors to produce publishable books. So far, I have edited six novels from up-and-coming writers.
I manage a blog at http://crimestory.wordpress.com/ on crime writing.
